Also, window-mount units can be quite loud because they operate right there in your window, but the compressor/condenser is outside with a mini-split, so you don’t have to deal with the noise.

Is A Mini-Split A/C System Right for You?

There are a few factors to consider when trying to select the right A/C option for your home.

• You can save money with a mini-split as compared to central air, both in terms of the upfront cost and the ongoing expense that comes with energy consumption. Of course, the cost of the installation will depend on a number of factors, so this option could actually be more expensive initially then central air, depending on your needs.
• One of the big selling points of a mini-split A/C system is the ability to dial in separate rooms to just the right temperature. For instance, you might want to keep your living room at 72*, while dialing your bedroom down to 70*. Whatever feels right to you can be accomplished in rooms with a mini-split unit.
• How many rooms? If you need all of the rooms in your home to be cooled during the summer, you will probably be better off with a central air system. However, if you only need to have a few key spaces cooled down while the rest of the house stays warmer, a mini-split can make that happen nicely.
